Is it ridiculous that only mortgages closed in 2007 with PMI are eligible for the new tax deduction?

I closed in 2005, it seems ridiculous to me that people that bought houses only in 2007 are eligible for the deduction. People that had loans issued in 2004,2005 and 2006 probably still pay PMI even in 2007… So why can’t we deduct.

This is a stupid law.

  1. wartz says:

To borrow from the language of innumerable Tax Court decisions, “Deductions are a matter of legislative grace.” That’s the way it is. Live with it.

    refinance your mortgage

  3. It’s the law. It was primarily intended as a test. Complain to your congressman or woman.
