i’m thinking to hire a lawyer to do debt negotiations because i absolutely cannot keep up with my bills. i think i would have to file chapter 13, which you still make payments to the creditors. this seems to be like debt negotiation, but without the bankruptcy label, so it seems better to debt negotiate route. any helpful opinions would be great. thanks!

waterbear1, Be careful! Make sure you seek advice from a professional in the bankruptcy field. You don’t want to make a mistake that can harm your credit for a long time. Try visting a lawyer to make sure you understand the options. http://www.bankruptcylawyersite.com

  2. Do you own negotiations, you don’t need a lawyer. Don’t BK – it’s not a good strategy.

It is much more difficult to reach bankruptcy because of a change in bankruptcy laws. Debt negotiations may be a good first option. Just make sure you have a lawyer who has experience with debt negotiations. Make sure you are very clear about legal fees. And get everything in writing – this is absolutely important.
